About Aurora

I am a Cary, NC portrait photographer, specializing in children, families, maternity and newborn portraits.

I have always loved portraits. Wandering the worlds art museums, I found myself drawn to the portraits, moving between the children of Mary Cassatt, the dancers of Edgar Degas, John Singer Sargent’s sensual Madame X, the fantastical pre-Raphaelites, to the incredibly symbolic portraits of Elizabeth I. Each portrait provides a glimpse into a life, a part of history, and a story. My love for portrait photography followed my interest in portraiture in general.

I have traveled a great deal in the United States and abroad, living in four countries beyond my own, and eventually settling in Charlotte. Originally a student of International Relations, my studies finally took me full circle, away from studying the relationships between countries and back to studying the relationships between individuals. My experiences have inspired me to focus on those times when humanity is at it’s best: the beauty of family relationships, the peaceful slumber of newborns, the happy activity of children, the midst of romance. My goal is to bring energy and life into a photograph.

When I'm not out with my camera, I enjoy spending time with my family, cooking, eating, writing, knitting, crocheting, making jewelry, traveling, and, above all, participating in all things equestrian (especially equestrian vaulting). In those rare moments I’m not occupied, I can usually be found curled under a light with a good book.
